What’s with the Lemon Water?
If you follow me on Snapchat, you know that Every. Single. Morning. I have 16 ounces of warm water with lemon. It has become part of my morning routine and since so many have inquired, I figured I let you in on exactly why I do this, and why I believe just about everyone can benefit as well.
Does the water need to be warm?
No, but I do recommend it to be at least room temperature water. Drinking cold water will actually shock your system first thing in the morning. The benefits of drinking water, lemon aside, first thing in the AM is a jumpstart to your digestion and mind. You’ve been essentially fasting for 7-9 hours while you sleep, so the body needs to be rehydrated. Drinking 16 ounces of water upon waking is a great way to kick start your body and mind.
Benefits of Lemon
Lemons are chalk full of vitamin c, potassium and other vitamins and minerals. Vitamin C strengthens the immune system against cold and flu.
Lemons also contain fibrous pectin, which keeps you satiated and less likely to give into cravings. Not to mention, drinking water will also keep you satiated as we commonly mistake hunger for thirst.
Lemon juice’s acidity is actually similar to that of our own stomach juices, and as a result aide in digestion. Lemons slow down the absorption of foods to keep insulin levels in check and prevent bloating. They have also been shown to help with upset stomach and indigestion.
Lemons are a mild diuretic too, and help rid the body of any harmful toxins, which result in healthy body and clearer skin!
Can I use bottled lemon juice?
NO! The bottled lemon juice is not the same! I am no expect on lemons, but it’s not too far off to assume that a bottle of lemon juice sitting on a shelf for a few months won’t have the same vitamins minerals as a fruit that has an expiration date! What’s worse, is the additives that may have been added in order for that bottle of lemon juice to remain on the shelf!

Why I started drinking lemon juice
I started drinking lemon water for it’s vitamin c and to boost my body’s immunity. I was very stressed and feeling super run down all the time. As a result, my body was more and more susceptible to illness. I also was exhibiting signs of adrenal fatigue and possible electrolyte imbalance. Overtime I have cut out my morning caffeine (I used to take a caffeine supplement!) and replaced it with warm lemon water. The lemon and water help my body and mind get going and I actually feel more rested and rejuvenated than I did when I was abusing caffeine! Not to mention the water first thing keeps me regular which fights against bloating and distention.
